Austrian President's office briefly evacuated after bomb threat

Part of the former imperial palace in central Vienna housing Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen’s office was evacuated on Wednesday after a bomb threat and the president was taken to safety, but police soon gave the all-clear, Reuters reported.

“The bomb threat was received by the police via email,” a police spokesman said.
Police sealed off the area around Van der Bellen’s office, including a square that separates it from the office of the head of Austria’s government, conservative Chancellor Sebastian Kurz.

It remains unclear who made the threat or why.
