U.S. appeals court rejected the Department of Justice’s request to allow the government to immediately ban Tencent’s WeChat from Apple and Google’s app stores.
The court said the government had not demonstrated it would “suffer an imminent, irreparable injury during the pendency of this appeal, which is being expedited.”
The Justice Department argues that WeChat and Chinese short video sharing app TikTok threaten U.S. national security.
Tencent and the Commerce Department did not immediately comment.
