China on Monday refused to congratulate Joe Biden for winning the U.S. presidential election.
Foreign ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said on Monday the result of the election would be determined under U.S. laws and procedures.
“We noticed that Mr. Biden has declared election victory,” foreign ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a daily media briefing. “We understand that the U.S. presidential election result will be determined following U.S. law and procedures.”
In 2016, President Xi Jinping sent congratulations to Trump on November 9, a day after the election.
