President Donald Trump announced that he is canceling the Jacksonville, Florida portions of the Republican National Convention scheduled for August.
Trump said it wasn’t the right time to do a “big, crowded convention.”
“I told my team it’s time to cancel the Jacksonville, Florida, component of the GOP convention,” Trump said at a White House briefing on the coronavirus.
“Thousands of people [are] wanting to be there, and I mean in some cases desperately be there,” he said. “People making travel arrangements all over the country.”
Trump’s announcement came hours after the number of confirmed cases in the United States rose past 4 million.
