10% of world's population may have been infected by COVID-19: WHO

The head of emergencies at WHO, Michael Ryan said that its “best estimates” indicate that about 10% of the global population may have been infected by the coronavirus.

“Our current best estimates tell us that about 10% of the global population may have been infected by this virus,” he said.

Ryan said that the figures vary from urban to rural and between different groups, but it means that the vast majority of the world remains at risk.

“Many deaths have been averted and many more lives can be protected,” Ryan added.
