Apple, Google launch tech for public health authorities to release COVID-19 apps

Apple and Google have made their Exposure Notifications technology available to public health agencies on both iOS and Android.

This means that public health agencies can now use the API in apps released to the general public.

This launch means that developers working on behalf of public health agencies can now issue apps that make use of it – Apple and Google themselves are not creating an exposure-notification or contact-tracing app.

In their announcement, the companies specified that the system “does not collect or use location from the device”.
