Argentina soccer legend Diego Maradona has died aged 60 at his home in Argentina after suffering a heart attack, his lawyer said.
Maradona had recently battled health issues and underwent emergency surgery for a subdural hematoma several weeks ago. He became a household name after inspiring his country to World Cup glory in 1986.
Soccer icon Pele has paid a moving tribute to Maradona.
“I have lost a great friend and the world lost a legend,” wrote Pele on Twitter.
“There is still much to be said, but for now, may God give strength to his family members. One day, I hope, we will play football together in heaven.”
