COVID-19: Africa passes 200,000 confirmed cases

The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in Africa has passed 200,000, according to the World Health Organization’s office for the region.

According to the latest update by the UN health agency, 202,782 people have tested positive for the virus across the 54 countries in Africa, of whom 90,374 have recovered and 5,516 have died, the UN health agency said.

Officials in South Africa and elsewhere have expressed concern as the number of infections continues to climb.
