The UK coronavirus death toll has risen by 110 to 45,422. The Government’s Department of Health has not confirmed the new figures reported by Public Health England.
The Department of Health’s figures include all settings – including care homes, hospices and the wider community.
A total of 295,817 people have now tested positive for Covid-19.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock said Public Health England (PHE) said that he will “very, very shortly” publish a “revised methodology” on accurately measuring Covid-19 deaths.
“At the start, it was perfectly reasonable to say that if somebody had ever registered positive with COVID and died, they died from COVID,” he told the Commons Science and Technology Committee.
