New Zealand has announced its first locally transmitted coronavirus infections in 102 days.
“After 102 days, we have our first cases of COVID-19 outside of managed isolation or quarantine facilities,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said. “While we have all worked incredibly hard to prevent this scenario, we have also planned and prepared for it.”
“No other country in the world was free of community transmission as long as New Zealand,” Ardern told reporters. “Together we have beaten the virus before. We can do so again.”
