France hits another record since lockdown

France’s daily coronavirus cases surged to the highest since the national lockdown ended in May. France reported 13,498 cases on Saturday, the second straight day over 13,000.

“For the first time since the lifting of the lockdown, we are seeing an increase in Covid-19 deaths,” the health agency said, adding that 265 people had died from the virus this week compared with 129 last week.

Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire became on Friday the country’s most senior official to become infected.
