France reports over 10,000 COVID-19 cases in 24 hours for first time

France reported 10,561 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, a new daily record, health authorities said on Saturday.

Over the past week, there had been 2,432 arrivals in hospital for COVID-19, including 417 entries into intensive care units, the ministry said.

The ministry reported 86 new coronavirus clusters in the country, taking the total to 772 clusters that are being investigated. The death toll in French hospitals and nursing homes has reached 30,910, with 17 deaths recorded in the past 24 hours, it added.

More than 28.5 million people around the world have been diagnosed with the coronavirus and nearly 916,000 have died, according to Johns Hopkins University.
