Global COVID-19 infections top 19 million

Global coronavirus cases exceeded the 19 million mark, with over 713,000 fatalities and more than 11.5 million recoveries, according to the latest tally from Johns Hopkins University.

The Chinese mainland recorded 37 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, with 27 domestically transmitted cases – 26 in northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and one in Beijing.

The US remains the worst-hit country, with over 4.88 million infections, while its death toll exceeds 160,000. India, Russia, South Africa and Mexico are also among the hardest-hit countries in the world.

The virus has spread to at least 188 countries and regions since December.
