Islamic State claims responsibility for Vienna attack

The Islamic State said in a statement they were responsible for shootings in Vienna.

According to Reuters, citing a report from the Islamic State’s own news outlet, a man shown in a video posted online pledging his allegiance to the head of the Islamic State is the same man who shot into crowds in Vienna Monday and was killed by officers.

The man who opened fire in central Vienna on Monday while armed has been identified as a 20-year-old Austrian citizen who had sought to travel to Syria to join the Islamic State, Austria’s Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said.

Four were killed while 22 people were injured in the terrorist attack.
