The NATO is preparing for the second wave of coronavirus – German publication Der Spiegel reports.
According to the report, NATO ambassadors decided last week during a secret meeting with the organization’s secretary-general, Jens Stoltenberg, to develop the operational plan, with the aim to get it adopted at a meeting of NATO defense ministers in June. Spiegel does not specify the source of the information.
Stoltenberg said during the secret meeting that a more coordinated response to a second coronavirus wave would be a litmus test for credibility and cohesion within the alliance, Spiegel says. The secretary-general also reportedly suggested the common procurement of personal protective equipment and medicines via NATO’s own support and procurement agency.
