Ousted Mali president leaves country

Ousted Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita left the country for medical treatment in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), an adviser said.

Keita was hospitalized six days after he was released from detention by the ruling junta, which seized power on August 18.

Keita’s medical condition is unclear. He had a benign tumor removed from his neck in 2016.

Keita had resigned and dissolved parliament after mutinying soldiers detained him at gunpoint last month.
