S Korea reports 40 new COVID-19 cases, the highest rise in 50 days

South Korea reported 40 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, the highest daily number of COVID-19 cases in 50 days, authorities said. A day earlier the country recorded 19 new cases.

The Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) reported 40 new cases, bringing the country’s total number to 11,265.

“We are very nervous about community infections and we are keeping a close eye on the situation,” vice health minister Kim Kang-lip said at a briefing.
