The US has now overtaken Italy to report the highest number of coronavirus-related deaths in the world, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
The latest data, compiled by Johns Hopkins University, shows more than 20,000 people in the US have now died.
New York state has become the epicentre of the outbreak in the US. The governor of New York Andrew announced a 24-hour figure of 783 new deaths.
Italy has the second highest number of deaths, and Spain third. 9,875 deaths were confirmed in the UK. More than 100,000 have now died with the virus around the world.
