Vietnam reports first COVID-19 death

Vietnamese state media reported on Friday the country’s first-ever death with the coronavirus, after a 70-year-old man died in Da Nang, the city where the virus re-emerged in the country last week after 100 days.

The Thanh Nien newspaper said the man died after contracting the disease while being treated for a kidney illness at a hospital in Da Nang.

The Health Ministry has not confirmed the death.

Authorities on Friday reported 45 new coronavirus cases, marking the biggest daily jump in the country, bringing the total cases in the country to 509. Vietnam reported its first case in late January.
