WHO: We acted 'quickly and decisively' on coronavirus

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Wednesday that the organisation had acted “quickly and decisively” on the new coronavirus.

He also provided a timeline of what the organisation knew when in the lead-up to declaring COVID-19 a global emergency on January 30. “There is one thing we haven’t done…that is (giving) up,” Ghebreyesus added.

More than 3.11 million people have been reported to be infected by the novel coronavirus around the world, and more than 216,000 have died, according to a Reuters tally on Wednesday.
